Bay Area Lab Creates Coronavirus Test

Avellino Labs, a biotechnology company in Menlo Park, has pioneered its own coronavirus test, and plans on distributing it widely to meet the testing demand. Now approved by the FDA, the testing kit helps diagnose the novel coronavirus by isolating the disease's unique genetic markers, which have been confirmed by the CDC. The test must be conducted by a physician, and it takes around 1-2 to get the results of the test after the nose and throat swabs have been conducted. The chief lab officer claims that the test is quicker and more accurate than others, even the one provided by the CDC. They hope that by spreading their kits and working with health officials, they will be able to increase testing accessibility.
